Norm Coleman, former Senator from Minnesota, put his hat into the ring last week for the Chairmanship of the RNC. Now, last week’s discussion of current RNC grand pumba Michael Steele did show that the RNC has some room for growth in selecting its chair, but are we sure we want this type of growth? Lets take a look at the loveable fuzz ball Norm.

Antiwar Protester during the Vietnam War

Celebrated 20th Birthday at Woodstock

Inexplicable voting and policy choices

Critical of college Conservatives and William Buckley

Poor record on Illegal Immigration

Against drilling in ANWR

Some of these inexplicable choices follow inexplicable statments like this one written in a letter in 1993 to convention delegates for mayor:

I have never sought any other political office. I have no other ambition other than to be mayor. . . . I am a lifelong Democrat. Some accuse me of being the fiscal conservative in this race — I plead guilty! I’m not afraid to be tight with your tax dollars. Yet, my fiscal conservatism does not mean I am any less progressive in my Democratic ideals. From Bobby Kennedy to George McGovern to Warren Spannaus to Hubert Humphrey to Walter Mondale — my commitment to the great values of our party has remained solid.

Also in 1993, Norm got to speak at the Democratic Farmers Labor State Convention, and said this gem:

Paul Wellstone is a Democrat, and I am a Democrat. (Insert crowd boos here)

Six months later, Coleman switched parties. He is now a Republican. He was tapped by Karl Rove and George Bush in 2002 to run against Sen. Wellstone. He lost in 2008 to comedian now Senator Al Franken in a bitter election battle that just now took a turn for the bizarre as it has been revealed that possibly 1,000 former felons voted in the election.

We ask the RNC not to consider Norm Coleman for Chairmanship. Norm is NOT what our party stands for, and does not represent the growing power of the Tea Party Movement. Norm has a place in politics in Minnesota, and he has done well there. That does not mean that he should represent the whole party on the national stage. We are at pivot time in our national debate between Progressive and Conservative policies. Norm is not the man to bear that mantle.

If the RNC continues to foister on the Party candidates and Chairmen that do not align with our beliefs nor the beliefs of a majority of the American Population, why should we support them in elections? Please RNC, do not put another RINO in charge.
